Update: Tracy Ferriter, Pleads Guilty in the Infamous ‘Boy in the Box’ Case
In a case that has garnered significant attention and sparked widespread outrage, Tracy Ferriter, a Florida mother, has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the imprisonment and abuse of her adopted teenage son. The case, which has been dubbed the “Boy in the Box” case, has highlighted severe child abuse and the complexities surrounding mental health disorders.
Details of the Case
On June 24, 2024, Tracy Ferriter entered a guilty plea to charges of first-degree aggravated child abuse, third-degree felony false imprisonment, and third-degree child neglect. The charges stem from allegations that she, along with her husband Timothy Ferriter, locked their adopted son in an 8 by 8-foot box-like room in their garage for extended periods.
The Conditions in the Box
Prosecutors revealed that the room where the boy was confined was windowless and equipped with a desk, a mattress, and a bucket for the boy to relieve himself. He was permitted to leave the room only to attend school and occasionally to eat dinner with the family. The room also contained a CCTV camera that allowed the Ferriters to monitor the boy’s activities continuously.
