Carletta A. Watson, a 30-year-old woman, has been found guilty of felony murder in the April 2012 execution-style slaying of Dontrell Tyree Curry, a Ranson man. The jury in Jefferson County Circuit Court also found her guilty of first-degree robbery, burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery, and conspiracy to commit burglary in connection to the homicide. Despite not being the shooter in the slaying, Watson is expected to spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Circumstances of the Homicide

The tragic incident occurred during a home invasion-style robbery at the Apple Tree Gardens apartment complex, where Curry, 27, was shot in the back of the head while on his knees at about 5 a.m. on April 25. Watson, who had ties to the Baltimore and Washington D.C. areas, had been staying with Curry and his girlfriend at the apartment complex just before the incident. The shooting was witnessed by one of the girlfriend’s children, who testified at the trial.
