Amari Pollard, a 20-year-old, found himself at the center of a deadly altercation that occurred after the graduation ceremony at the Altria Theater. The incident led to the death of Shawn Jackson, an 18-year-old fellow graduate, and Renzo Smith, Jackson’s step-father, while leaving five others injured but surviving the ordeal.

The confrontation began when Jackson and his friends approached Pollard and his cousin. According to Pollard, he became extremely frightened and fired at Jackson six times, leading to Jackson’s stepfather, Renzo Smith, attempting to fire back. Smith, 39, also died in the ensuing violence.
