Shawn Yarbrough, a 46-year-old St. Johns County Fire Rescue lieutenant, and his wife, Andrea Nahrup Yarbrough, 34, were found dead in their St. Augustine home in an apparent murder-suicide on June 13, 2024. The incident has left four children without parents and has shocked the local community and beyond.
The Tragic Incident
The murder-suicide was discovered by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office after Andrea’s mother requested a welfare check when she couldn’t reach her daughter. The authorities found the couple’s bodies in the bathroom of their home, with autopsies confirming that both died from gunshot wounds. Andrea’s death was classified as a homicide, while Shawn’s was ruled a suicide.
The Ominous Facebook Post
About two weeks before the tragic event, Andrea made a Facebook post that shed light on the grueling work schedule of her husband, Shawn, a firefighter. She shared the monthly activity logs for his department, revealing a staggering 3,203 calls for service. In her post, she expressed the toll this schedule took on their personal lives, stating, “This is why all of our significant others are exhausted and never functioning 100% at home”.
