In a shocking turn of events that captured international attention, an American man named Troy Philipp B. was involved in a gruesome crime near the picturesque Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, Germany. The incident involved the rape and murder of a 21-year-old U.S. tourist and the attempted murder of her friend, also an American citizen.
The Crime
In June of the previous year, two American women, Eva Liu aged 21 who died and Kelsey Chang 22 who survived, were hiking in the scenic Neuschwanstein area when they encountered Troy Philipp B. He had offered to take them to a viewpoint which led them to a secluded area where the horrific incident took place. Troy Philipp B., then 30, attacked the 21-year-old woman, pushing her to the ground, raping her, and eventually strangling her with a belt while recording the act. When her friend attempted to intervene, she was pushed down a steep slope by the assailant.
Discovery and Arrest
