Former UC Santa Cruz Student Arrested in Allegedly Strangling Girlfriend at Beach
In a heartbreaking incident that shook the UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) community, a tragic loss occurred when one of its students succumbed to fatal injuries sustained at Seabright State Beach. The incident involved the arrest of Samuel Brannigan Stone, a former UCSC student, on suspicion of homicide. The Incident and Arrest
Early in the morning on February 26, 2024, tragedy struck when a UCSC student suffered fatal injuries at Seabright State Beach. First responders and the Santa Cruz Police Department rushed to the scene in an attempt to save her life. Despite their efforts, she was later pronounced dead at Dominican Hospital. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, the student’s name has not been disclosed.
Samuel Stone, who was no longer enrolled at UCSC, was arrested on suspicion of homicide and subsequently booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. The police investigation revealed that Stone and the victim were acquainted.
